A wounded British or Canadian officer is being loaded by stretcher into a Red Cross hospital train car marked "Officers" in this gelatin silver press print issued as a Canadian Official photograph and distributed by the Western Newspaper Union, circa 1915 to 1918. The image captures the transfer in progress, with several soldiers assisting and two Red Cross nurses attending to the casualty as he is carried up to the train entrance.
The officer on the stretcher is wrapped in a dark blanket and appears alert, looking upward; the nurse standing in the open car doorway wears a full white uniform and veil and smiles down at the group. A second nurse in matching uniform stands at right at trackside, and three soldiers in British-pattern tunics and peaked caps manage the stretcher. The car exterior shows the word "Officers" stenciled above the doorway and the number 51 on the adjacent panel.
The reverse caption, titled "Bound for Home," states the officer was leaving for England and home in the care of two Red Cross nurses while en route. The credit line identifies the photograph as a Canadian Official image distributed through the Western Newspaper Union.
The image measure 6 x 8.
