Three unidentified workers pose at their stations inside a large industrial machine shop in this whole-plate tintype, the reverse bearing a paper label with a partially legible inscription that appears to read a facility name consistent with a northeastern manufacturing works. The format and style of dress are consistent with the 1870s to early 1880s. Industrial interior tintypes of this scale and clarity are uncommon survivals from the period.

The dominant feature of the composition is a large horizontal industrial machine mounted on a floor-level bed with iron rails running its full length, a cylindrical drum or large workpiece secured between centers on the machine. The worker at center stands astride the rail bed with both arms extended to the operating controls on either side of the machine, his suspenders and work shirt visible in clear detail. The worker at left, bearded and wearing a dark vest, stands beside the machine holding a tool. The worker at right is partially ghosted due to movement during the long exposure required for the dimly lit interior, a characteristic artifact of early industrial photography. Large coils of heavy twisted rope or drive belting hang from the overhead rack along the full width of the ceiling above, and additional machinery is visible receding into the background along the rail line.

The reverse bears a paper label with a handwritten inscription identifying the facility, partially legible, in a period hand. No photographer's imprint is present.
