Albumen stereoview portrait of sculptor John Rogers, photographed by Charles Bierstadt. The view shows Rogers posed in his studio environment, associated with the production of his widely collected plaster figural groups, and dates to the late 1860s–1870s period.

John Rogers (1829–1904) was the most popular American sculptor of the 19th century, best known for his mass-produced plaster genre groups known as “Rogers Groups,” which depicted scenes of domestic life, literature, and the Civil War and were found in homes throughout the United States.

Photographed by Charles Bierstadt, one of the leading stereoview publishers of the period and brother of painter Albert Bierstadt.
