Sir Edwin Henry Landseer (1802–1873) was one of the most celebrated animal painters of the Victorian era and the sculptor of the famous lion figures at the base of Nelson’s Column in London’s Trafalgar Square. His work was widely reproduced and admired on both sides of the Atlantic.
