His right hand rests at his waist while he holds the sword by its curved guard. A wide belt with oval buckle is worn at the waist. He has a full beard and neatly parted hair. The background features a painted studio backdrop with softly rendered landscape elements, and a studio prop table or support is visible at the right edge of the composition.

The mat bears the imprint “Knecht Easton PA” along the lower edge. The image is presented in a hinged case with a deep red velvet pad.
