A tall ovoid vase from Grueby Pottery of Boston is covered in a soft mustard yellow matte glaze with an overall fine crackle. Six raised leaf panels rise from the base to a flared trumpet rim, separated by deep vertical grooves. Yellow was among the rarer colorways produced by the firm, far less common than its celebrated cucumber green.

The leaf panels taper to points just below the rim, their ridges sharply defined against the recessed channels between them. The grooves show a deeper amber tone where the glaze pools more thickly. The flared rim opens gently outward above the gently swelling ovoid body. The glaze surface throughout carries a fine, even curdle typical of the firm's yellow and ochre glazes.

Grueby Pottery was founded in Boston in 1894 by William H. Grueby, whose hand applied matte glazes became a hallmark of the American Arts and Crafts movement. While the cucumber green glaze remains most closely associated with the firm, smaller quantities of yellow and ochre glazes were produced during the same period, making vases in this color scarce today.

The vase stands 8 inches high. A small rim repair is not visible to the eye. The final photograph shows this vase alongside other pottery offered in separate lots, included for scale only.
