A compact vase from Grueby Pottery of Boston is covered in the firm's signature cucumber green matte glaze. A cylindrical neck rises from a bulbous, multi lobed base divided into rounded leaf forms. Raised buds project from the shoulder where the neck meets the body.

A deep vertical stems run down the front of the neck, topped by the pointed buds at its top. The lobed lower body is composed of overlapping rounded sections suggesting layered leaves or petals. The heavily textured matte glaze pools in darker tones within the crevices and along the seams, lightening to a brighter green across the raised surfaces.

Grueby Pottery was founded in Boston in 1894 by William H. Grueby, whose hand applied matte green glaze became one of the defining surfaces of the American Arts and Crafts movement. Vases combining cylindrical necks with bud and leaf forms over bulbous bodies were among the firm's recurring designs during its most active period in the early 1900s.

The vase stands 7 inches high. The base has been repaired. The final photograph shows this vase alongside other pottery offered in separate lots, included for scale only.
