A tall ovoid vase from Grueby Pottery of Boston carries a deep pumpkin colored matte glaze over a leaf form body. Raised vertical ribs taper from the shoulder to a flared rim, dividing the surface into pointed panels. The colorway is among the scarcer alternatives to the firm's celebrated cucumber green glaze.

Five buttressed ribs converge near the neck, their edges sharply tooled against the rounded body. The glaze deepens to rust along the ribs and lightens to a warm amber across the broader panels. The flared rim opens gently above a tapering base.

Grueby Pottery, founded in Boston in 1894 by William H. Grueby, became known for hand applied matte glazes that helped define the American Arts and Crafts movement. Alongside its signature green, the firm produced smaller runs of yellow and ochre glazes, of which this pumpkin example is a scarce variant.

The vase stands 8 3/4 inches high. The base retains remnants of the circular Grueby Pottery Boston USA mark, with the letter G visible. Minor chip repair to the rim. The final photograph shows this vase at left alongside other pottery offered in separate lots, included for scale only.
