Group of fourteen mid-19th century cased photographic portraits consisting of tintypes and ambrotypes, each housed in original hinged cases with gilt mats and velvet interior pads. The portraits depict men, women, and children posed in formal studio settings typical of American photography of the Civil War era.
Subjects appear in period clothing including dresses with fitted bodices, jackets, waistcoats, and children’s garments. Several portraits show siblings, small family groups, and individual sitters. The cases display a variety of embossed velvet pad designs including examples in red and dark blue, along with decorative gilt mat openings characteristic of cased photographs produced during the 1850s–1870s.
All photographs remain preserved in their original protective cases with intact hinges and interior liners. The lot offers a representative assortment of cased tintype and ambrotype portraits from the mid-nineteenth century.
