Group of thirteen mid-19th century cased photographic portraits consisting of tintypes and ambrotypes, each housed in original hinged cases with gilt mats and embossed velvet interior pads. The portraits depict men, women, and children posed in studio settings typical of American photography of the Civil War era.

Subjects wear period clothing including dresses with fitted bodices, shawls, jackets, waistcoats, and children’s garments. Several portraits show individual sitters while others depict small family groups. The cases display a variety of decorative gilt mat openings and richly embossed velvet pad designs characteristic of cased photography produced during the 1850s–1870s.

All images remain preserved in their original protective cases with intact hinges and interior liners. The group offers a varied assortment of cased tintype and ambrotype portraits representing the popular photographic formats of the mid-nineteenth century.
