Group of thirteen mid-19th century cased photographic portraits consisting of tintypes and ambrotypes, each preserved in original hinged cases with gilt mats and velvet interior pads. The portraits depict men, women, and children posed in formal studio settings typical of American photography of the Civil War era.

Subjects appear in period clothing including dresses with fitted bodices, shawls, jackets, waistcoats, and children’s garments. Several portraits show siblings or small family groups while others are individual portrait studies. The cases display a variety of decorative gilt mat openings and embossed velvet pad designs, including examples with red and dark blue interiors characteristic of cased photographs of the 1850s–1870s.

All images remain housed in their original protective cases with intact hinges and interior liners. The group offers a varied assortment of cased tintype and ambrotype portraits representing the popular photographic formats of the mid-nineteenth century.
