Hand-colored albumen carte de visite numbered 2752 depicting a Neapolitan street performer playing a zampogna (a bagpipe found in mountainous regions across Central and Southern Italy) while operating small marionette figures mounted on a wooden base. Two articulated puppet figures, one dressed in yellow and the other in pale costume, are positioned before him and connected by string to a simple upright frame. The performer wears a soft cap, loose trousers, and apron, and stands against a plain studio background. Subtle applied color is visible on the garments and puppets.
Verso bears the ornate printed backmark of G. Sommer, Fotografo, Largo Vittoria, Napoli, surrounded by medal and exhibition emblems. Pencil notation to lower margin.
