The subject of this copy of a daguerreotype, ambrotype, or tintype is identified as Moses by a period ink inscription written in cursive script across the upper mount above the portrait oval. The photograph is a carte de visite produced by E. O. Eddy of Wallingford, Vermont, and the presence of a two-cent U.S. Internal Revenue stamp affixed to the reverse dates the card to the tax period of 1864 to 1866. The image is printed within a decorative oval vignette framed by an embossed floral and scrollwork border with rope detailing, a mount style consistent with the mid-1860s.

The subject appears to be a young male with short dark hair, a direct and serious expression, and a dark jacket worn over a white shirt with a loosely knotted bow tie at the collar. His hands are folded and partially visible at the lower edge of the oval frame.

The two-cent orange U.S. Internal Revenue stamp on the reverse is hand-canceled with ink script, and the photographer's imprint reads E. O. Eddy, Wallingford, Vt. in plain block lettering centered on the mount.
