A group of approximately twenty albumen boudoir cards documenting landscapes along the Northern Pacific Railroad corridor and Yellowstone National Park, produced by F. Jay Haynes, who became Official Photographer of the Northern Pacific Railroad in 1881 and for twenty years photographed the country and people along its routes, operating from a Pullman car fitted as studio and darkroom. Haynes is best known for his photographic work in Yellowstone National Park, which he first visited in 1881 at the bidding of the Northern Pacific. At least one card in the group bears a reverse imprint attributing the photograph to Charles S. Francis, 1888, indicating the collection draws from more than one photographer active in the region during the same period.

The subjects span alpine lakes with broad mountain reflections, dense conifer shorelines, snow-covered boulder fields, rushing waterfalls, open meadows with a lone deer near water, a steep railroad switchback with tracks converging toward a rock pinnacle bearing a flag, and dramatic views of glacier-carved peaks including one annotated on the reverse as East Point of Red Eagle Mountain from a camp on Red Eagle Creek. Mounts are cream stock with a narrow border rule; one card displays a black border; the stack shows gilt-edged boards visible along the spine.

Commissioned in 1876 to make views along the route of the Northern Pacific Railroad, Haynes traveled through the West until 1905. He became both the official photographer of the Northern Pacific Railway and of Yellowstone National Park, and his photographs were widely published in articles, journals, and books, and turned into stereographs and postcards in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.

Several cards bear the printed reverse imprint "Haynes Boudoir Views, Northern Pacific, Yellowstone Park, Pacific Coast and Alaska," with the St. Paul, Minnesota studio address; one reverse is inscribed in pencil "East Point of Red Eagle Mt. from camp on Red Eagle Creek"; another is imprinted "Photographed by Charles S. Francis 1888" with a handwritten inscription reading "St. Marys Lake."
