This carte de visite photograph shows a Union soldier in uniform, presented as a bust portrait against a plain studio background. The image is a standard CDV format, dating to circa 1863–1865. The mount is imprinted for McAdams, 101 King Street, Alexandria, Virginia.
The soldier wears a dark military coat with visible buttons and a high collar, posed formally with a direct gaze typical of Civil War-era studio portraiture.
The reverse includes a printed imprint reading “Photographed by McAdams, 101 King St., Alexandria, Va.” with additional text noting “Negative preserved. Additional copies can be had if desired.” A three-cent Internal Revenue proprietary stamp is affixed at the top.
