This carte de visite photograph shows two Union soldiers standing side by side in uniform, each holding a kepi. The image is a studio portrait on a standard CDV mount, dating to circa 1863–1865. The mount bears the imprint of N. B. Alworth, Chico, Butte County, California.

Both men wear dark frock coats with shoulder straps and rows of brass buttons, posed formally against a plain studio backdrop with patterned flooring. Their stance and attire reflect standard Union military presentation during the Civil War period.

The reverse includes a printed imprint reading “N. B. Alworth, Chico, Butte Co., Cal.” along with a three-cent Internal Revenue proprietary stamp affixed at top. Handwritten notations are present at the lower edge.
