Two cabinet card photographs depicting staged tableaux of three children with a dog, late 19th century. Both mounts bear the imprint of Chas. J. Burggraf, Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
The first image shows two children arranged hidden behind a rustic wooden fence while a third sits at left wearing a dark cloak and bonnet. Each holds a patterned textile draped across their laps. A dog lies stretched across the foreground with head resting on the ground. The setting includes a painted backdrop with trees and foliage, along with a constructed fence, steps, and textured ground covering.
The second image presents the same children and setting in a reconfigured pose. One child leans over the fence using a thin stick to tickle the ear of another child sleeping on the steps with head tilted. The third child remains at left in a similar position, and the dog again lies in the foreground, slightly repositioned. The paired images form a staged sequence using identical studio elements.
Both mounts read “Burggraf” at lower left and “No. 295 Main Street, Johnstown, Pa.” at lower right. The versos are printed “Chas. J. Burggraf Photographer, No. 295 Main Street, Louther & Green’s Block, Johnstown, Pa.” with no additional markings.
