Three vintage 8 X 10 silver prints showcasing Eddie Leonard, the iconic vaudeville and minstrel performer. Leonard was born Lemuel Gordon Toney, a vaudevillian considered the greatest American minstrel of his day, at a time when minstrel shows were an acceptable and popular mainstream entertainment in the United States. He was called "last of the great minstrels" in his 1941 obituary in Time. Known for his popularization of songs such as “Ida, Sweet as Apple Cider,” Leonard’s influence on early 20th-century American entertainment is evident in these striking portraits. Each image captures Leonard in character, wearing the white top hat and bow tie that became synonymous with his act.
