Group of ten sixth plate daguerreotypes depicting students of Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut, dating to about 1852 to 1853, with six portraits arranged in a multi-opening mat within an original full plate case and four additional portraits housed separately. The sitters are identified through mid-20th century research and correspondence, placing them within the Class of 1853 and associated student circles. Several wear small metallic pins consistent with Phi Kappa Society affiliation, an early collegiate society at Trinity, while dress and presentation reflect formal mid-19th century student portrait conventions.

The six portraits in the primary grouping present young men in dark frock coats, waistcoats, and cravats, posed against plain studio grounds with direct, frontal lighting. Multiple sitters display small pinned insignia on the lapel, and a few include additional decorative elements such as patterned vests and carefully arranged ties. The four additional daguerreotypes include three further identified students and a second portrait of James P. Bowman, with variations in mat shapes and presentation but consistent photographic style across the group.

Identified sitters include Robert Andrews, Erastus Winslow Williams, David Buel Knickerbocker, Theodore Caswell Glasier, James P. Bowman, Alexander Hamilton Polk, and William G. Spencer, with at least one remaining unidentified. The lot is accompanied by approximately 38 pages of correspondence dated 1952, 1956, and 1957 between E. W. McDonald of Louisiana State University and Trinity College administrators regarding sitter identifications. Provenance traces the group to Rosedown Plantation, Louisiana, through the Bowman family, with the material preserved together and later researched in detail, forming a documented and cohesive mid-19th century collegiate portrait archive.
