Ten stereoview photographs document military and civilian balloon subjects across multiple publishers and periods, with the majority issued by Underwood and Underwood. Subjects include observation balloons deployed over open terrain, a large spherical balloon being held by uniformed soldiers gathered around a wicker basket, a crowd scene with a balloon ascending above a mass of spectators, and an aerial view identified as Vienna with the great balloon from the Ferris Wheel at the Columbian Exposition. A balloon corps scene with mounted figures and horses appears among the military subjects, along with what appears to be field fortifications or balloon equipment on arid ground.

Several cards show tethered balloons photographed against open skies with ground crews and military personnel visible below, while others depict balloon operations in what captions suggest are Boer War and Russo-Japanese War contexts. Mount colors vary from tan to gray, with printed captions along the lower edges and publisher imprints on the lateral borders.

Underwood and Underwood produced extensive documentary stereoview series covering both the Boer War and Russo-Japanese War, and their balloon observation subjects from those campaigns are among the more sought documentary records of early military aeronautics in the stereoview format.
