Our September 2026 auction is anchored by two remarkable private collections, together making up about half the sale, alongside a broader selection of consignments spanning early photography, Civil War material, and vernacular imagery. The Soffer Collection, built with an eye for rarity and historical significance, is particularly strong in vernacular portraiture, Native American photographs, and Iowa Civil War imagery. The Palmer, Massachusetts collection, much of it found at Brimfield, centers on maker-marked daguerreotypes from the golden age of the American daguerreian studio.

A log cabin exterior serves as the backdrop for this albumen stereoview, published by T. W. Ingersoll of St. Paul, Minnesota, as part of his "Sporting Views, Game Pictures" series, which encompassed duck shooting, deer hunting, and canoeing subjects. The image almost certainly dates to the late 1880s or early 1890s, consistent with Ingersoll's active publishing period and the style of his imprint advertising Yellowstone and Northwestern views.

Numerous dressed deer carcasses hang from the front and sides of the hewn-log structure, their pale hides covering much of the cabin's facade. At least three figures are visible near the entrance, wearing heavy frontier work clothing, and a horse stands to the left of the frame. Rifles or long poles lean against the log walls, and the bare, flat ground in the foreground reinforces the remote camp setting.

T. W. Ingersoll operated at 27 East Third Street, St. Paul, and was self-described as the largest publisher of views in Minnesota, serving as official photographer for the St. Paul Ice Palace and Carnival Association and a contributor to Frank Leslie's and The Graphic.

The mount face reads "Sporting Views, Game Pictures" vertically on the left border and "Photographed by T. W. Ingersoll, St. Paul, Minn." on the right. The title strip at the lower center reads "3031 Deer Hunter's Home." The reverse carries a full Ingersoll publisher advertisement listing Northwestern, Yellowstone, and Alaska series.
