An emotionally resonant sixth plate daguerreotype depicting three siblings, two older children protectively flanking a younger child seated at center. The eldest girl, wearing a dark dress with a ribbon-tied collar and decorative belt buckle, rests her hand gently on the child’s shoulder. At right, a boy with swept hair and a large white collar looks directly at the camera. The youngest child, seated on a patterned cloth-covered chair, wears a short-sleeved dress and clasps their hands demurely in their lap. The clarity and presence of the image convey a touching familial bond.
Housed in a finely preserved full leather case with an ornate geometric and floral design on the exterior and deep wine-colored velvet pad opposite. The original scalloped brass mat and gilt preserver remain intact, enhancing the composition's depth and formality. A powerful example of sibling portraiture from the daguerreian era.
