Silver gelatin photograph depicting the First National Bank building at the corner of Witherspoon and Nassau Streets in Princeton, New Jersey, identified in manuscript on the verso. No photographer’s imprint is visible.
The image shows a substantial four-story brick commercial building occupying a prominent corner lot, with arched windows on the upper floors, decorative stone trim, and a projecting cornice with dentil detailing. The ground level features large arched openings and a corner entrance with signage reading “First National Bank.” Adjacent storefronts and row buildings extend along both streets, forming a continuous commercial streetscape.
Street details include early utility poles with overhead wiring, a horse-drawn carriage at right, and a bicycle near the curb. Pedestrians are visible along the sidewalks, and the overall scene reflects an active but orderly town center.
A comparable view of the building is documented in a photograph dated 1902; the present image appears slightly later, based on subtle changes in the streetscape and infrastructure. The verso bears the handwritten caption “First National Bank Bldg – corner Witherspoon St. and Nassau St.” The print exhibits light toning and scattered foxing consistent with age.
