An exceptional Carte de Visite (CDV) captures an image of Caid Maur, a prominent figure in traditional Moroccan attire, photographed during the 19th century. The subject is depicted in a full-length pose, enveloped in a voluminous white cloak with a hood, characteristic of the era's regional dress. His intense gaze and solemn expression are expertly captured, reflecting the dignity and stature of the individual.
The photograph is mounted on a classic CDV card, with the embossed initials "E & B" at the lower left corner, indicating the photographer or studio's mark. The image is well-preserved with subtle sepia toning, adding to its historical authenticity.
The reverse side of the CDV bears handwritten inscriptions that provide vital context to the image. The top part is inscribed with "Caïd maure Maroc," identifying the subject and origin. Below, the signature of "A. Chaudy" is elegantly penned, possibly indicating the photographer or the person who commissioned the photograph. This CDV offers a rare glimpse into the cultural and historical significance of Moroccan dignitaries during the 19th century, making it a valuable addition to any collection of historical photographs or ethnographic studies.
