A carte de visite (CDV) features a striking portrait of a Moroccan Caid, captured by the renowned Abdullah Frères studio in Constantinople. The subject is depicted in traditional attire, including a hooded cloak, standing in profile with a serious and dignified expression. The detailed and sharp focus of the photograph highlights the rich texture of the cloak and the subject's facial features, offering a remarkable glimpse into the attire and posture typical of a high-ranking official in 19th-century Morocco.
The photograph showcases the subject in full traditional Moroccan attire, with the cloak's hood up, draping elegantly over his shoulders. The clarity and contrast of the image are excellent, with the subject set against a plain backdrop that accentuates his imposing figure.
The reverse side of the CDV features the elegant studio mark of Abdullah Frères, "Photographes de Sa Majesté Impériale Le Sultan," along with the studio’s location, "Pera, Constantinople." Additionally, handwritten annotations are present, identifying the subject as "Caid Maure" and referencing "Maroc" (Morocco). The signature of the photographer or studio representative is also visible, adding an extra layer of authenticity and historical significance to this piece.
