A comprehensive collector's album of portrait photographs, postcards, CDVs, and press prints documenting composers, authors, and poets spanning roughly a century and a half of cultural history. The collection spans early photographic formats through mid-twentieth-century press photography, assembled with annotations in pencil on many of the reverses identifying subjects, dates, and biographical notes. Highlights include composer portraits labeled Dvorak, Berlioz, Wagner, Grieg, Jean Sibelius, Engelbert Humperdinck, and Darius Milhaud; literary figures including Walt Whitman, Leo Tolstoy, Guy de Maupassant, Edmond Rostand, George Bernard Shaw, Francis Scott Key, Joyce Carol Oates, and Ralph Waldo Emerson; and a press photograph of Allen Ginsberg credited to photographer George Durose, issued by Griot Jones. CDV examples include portraits labeled Tennyson, Walter Scott, Beethoven, John Ruskin, and La Fontaine, several from Bischmann's Portrait Collection. Allen Ginsberg (1926–1997) was a prominent American poet and a key figure in the Beat movement, whose epic poem "Howl" is considered one of the most significant works of the Beat era. A. Aubrey Bodine, represented here by the Mencken press material, was a portraitist of consummate skill and longtime photographer for the Baltimore Sunday Sun.

The album also contains a National Portrait Gallery reproduction label identifying a 1940 gelatin silver portrait of H. L. Mencken photographed by A. Aubrey Bodine, bearing the NPG accession number NPG.77.340 and credited to the Smithsonian Institution; a pressed-card bookplate reading "the library of Warren Scheideman" accompanies it. Additional items include City Lights Books postcards from San Francisco, a mailed Walt Whitman centennial postcard addressed to Mr. Ed. Barcalow of Evanston, Illinois, and annotated reverses referencing Adelbert von Chamisso, Lord Byron, Edward Everett Hale, and Edmond Rostand as French poet and dramatist, author of "Cyrano de Bergerac." Several cards bear publisher imprints including J. Beagles and Co. London, E. Neurdein Paris, Peacock Platino-Photo, and Dr. H. and Co. B. Germany. The lot also includes a 1999 DreamWorks Records press photograph of Randy Newman by William Claxton and a press photograph of Joyce Carol Oates credited to Jerry Bauer.
