A small creamer or pitcher from Clifton Pottery's Indian Ware line is finished in an unglazed red clay body with a glossy black interior glaze. A wide band of black outlined triangles, alternating in orientation, encircles the body between two horizontal black lines. The piece was produced in Newark, New Jersey, during the line's brief run between 1905 and 1911.

A looped handle extends from the rim to the shoulder, and the rim itself is pulled into a small pinched spout opposite the handle. The black interior glaze extends over the rim edge, framing the red clay exterior. The triangular motifs vary slightly in size and spacing around the body, each outlined in black with the red clay left exposed at center.

Clifton's Indian Ware designs were drawn from prehistoric Southwest pottery, and pieces were often inscribed with the region or site associated with the source design. Here the incised inscription reads Little Colorado, referencing the river valley in Arizona long associated with this style of geometric pottery decoration.
