The image number "689" printed at the lower left corner of the print suggests it was produced as part of a commercial series, consistent with the widespread documentation of Native American delegations and leaders during this period.

All three men wear hide leggings with fringe detailing extending from knee to ankle, and soft-soled moccasins. The central figure is dressed in a dark cloth coat and wears a large peace medal on a ribbon at his chest, with a second smaller medallion below it, indicating a position of political prominence. The two flanking figures each wear lighter cloth shirts and circular shell or bone gorgets at the throat, and all three maintain composed, direct expressions.

Peace medals of this type were issued by the United States government to tribal leaders during treaty negotiations and official delegations, and their presence here, particularly the layered medals on the central figure, marks this portrait as one of political and diplomatic significance. The studio numbering and mount format are consistent with Washington-area photographers who documented such delegations during the Grant and Hayes administrations.

The reverse bears a blue paper dealer's tag marked "163" in ink. No photographer's imprint is present on the mount. The mount measures 11 by 14 inches, with an image size of 5 1/4 by 7 1/4 inches.
