Our September 2026 auction is anchored by two remarkable private collections, together making up about half the sale, alongside a broader selection of consignments spanning early photography, Civil War material, and vernacular imagery. The Soffer Collection, built with an eye for rarity and historical significance, is particularly strong in vernacular portraiture, Native American photographs, and Iowa Civil War imagery. The Palmer, Massachusetts collection, much of it found at Brimfield, centers on maker-marked daguerreotypes from the golden age of the American daguerreian studio.

A complete Rorschach psychodiagnostic test set comprising ten hand-applied ink blot cards on white stock, accompanied by an Individual Record Blank booklet developed for the Rorschach Institute by Bruno Klopfer and Helen H. Davidson, published by World Book Company and bearing a 1942 copyright. The cards present the standard ten bilateral symmetrical compositions, five rendered entirely in black and gray ink and five incorporating polychrome washes in red, pink, orange, green, blue, yellow, and ochre, each blot transferred by folding to produce its mirrored form. The booklet includes a location chart, full explanation of scoring symbols, a tabulation sheet, and a relationships-among-factors page with an intellectual level estimation grid, all unfilled.

The individual card images range from dense, heavily saturated black masses with pronounced textural gradation to the delicate, branching multicolor compositions characteristic of Cards VIII through X. Red accent zones appear as bold bilateral pools and fine splatter details across the chromatic cards, while the achromatic plates display nuanced gray tonal wash distinct from the solid black outer forms. Two reference sheets printed with reduced monochrome reproductions of all ten plates, labeled in Roman numerals and marked "Rorschach: Psychodiagnostics" and "Printed in U.S.A.," are also included in the lot.

The record blank cover reads: "The Rorschach Method of Personality Diagnosis, Individual Record Blank, Copyright 1942 by the Rorschach Institute, Inc., RMPD-14, Printed in U.S.A." All fields within the booklet remain blank and unused.
