A focused collection of French picture postcards assembled in a ring binder, united by a single overarching subject: the Guignol puppet tradition in its Parisian and Lyonnais forms. The group spans photographic real-photo cards, hand-colored tinted cards, illustrated comic-strip series, and press-style prints, with a substantial run of mailed correspondence cards showing "Carte Postale" reverses bearing French stamps, cancels, and handwritten messages. Several cards bear the printed caption "Guignol du Passage de l'Argue," tying them directly to the celebrated covered arcade in Lyon's 2nd arrondissement where a Guignol theater operated from the 1860s into the early twentieth century.

Images across the album include outdoor puppet-booth scenes on the Champs-Élysées, interior theater views labeled "Salle de Jeux," hand-colored cards featuring the Guignol puppet character in his distinctive square hat and dark coat, comic-strip narrative sequences with printed dialogue in the margins, a card captioned "Guignol à tous ses Amis, Merci," Montmartre street scenes, the "Carillon Lyonnais de Voiron," Charbonnières-les-Bains parkland views, and a set of illustrated story cards from the series "La Vie de Bohème." Several correspondence reverses bear the imprint "Compagnie Générale Transatlantique" and a run of cards addressed in the same hand to a recipient in Rouen is also present.

Guignol was created by puppeteer Laurent Mourguet of Lyon in the early nineteenth century as a glove puppet dressed in the costume of a Lyonnais silk weaver. The character embodied a resourceful worker with a biting sense of humor, and through his shows Mourguet addressed current issues, mocking the powerful and defending ordinary people. In 1862, Louis Josserand and his wife Gabrielle Avocat opened a Guignol theater in the Passage de l'Argue, with the first marionette shows in the Petit Passage de l'Argue beginning in 1899.

Reverses on multiple cards carry "Carte Postale" printed headers with correspondence and address fields; several bear 5-centime French Semeuse stamps, postmarks ranging from the 1900s through the 1920s, and handwritten messages in French cursive. One card reverse reads "Permettre au profit du spectacle de la Borde, 20 juin 1910" (Permit for the benefit of the La Borde show, June 20, 1910). A card in the lower section of the album bears the printed legend "Guignol des Enfants de Montchat" (Guignol of the Children of Montchat).
