Unusual and likely unique half plate daguerreotype of a seated woman, young boy, and girl, with an exceptionally rare inclusion: a large display of white coral placed prominently on a small table between them. The coral, displayed like a specimen, suggests a connection to natural history collecting or scientific curiosity—interests more commonly documented in European daguerreotypes than American ones, making this a likely one-of-a-kind domestic example.

The subjects are well-posed in a studio setting, with excellent clarity and strong contrast in their expressions, garments, and hair textures. The girl wears a distinctive shoulder cape and cross necklace, and a luxurious fur is draped across her lap—further suggesting a prosperous family. Minor surface wipes are visible under raking light but do not detract from the overall presence. The plate is housed in its original full leather case with rich, ornate floral design.

Among the most visually compelling mid-19th century family portraits encountered, and the only American daguerreotype known to feature a coral specimen as part of the composition—this image would make a striking addition to any advanced collection of natural history-related photography or early American visual culture.
