Group of stereoview photographs depicting early dirigibles and rigid airships in flight and at air stations. Several images show large dirigibles cruising above open fields while others document massive airship hangars and airships at rest near the ground.
Included is a view of President Calvin Coolidge and Rear Admiral Moffett participating in the christening ceremony of the naval airship Los Angeles at the Naval Air Station, Anacostia, Washington, D.C., with accompanying Keystone caption card describing the event. Other stereographs show large rigid airships including one marked R34, illustrating early transatlantic-era dirigible aviation.
These stereoviews were produced by Keystone View Company and related publishers during the early twentieth century when dirigibles represented the most advanced form of controlled flight. The photographs capture the scale and engineering of the great airships and their associated ground facilities.
