We are pleased to present our Winter Photography Auction, opening January 31 at 1:00 PM Eastern, featuring approximately 270 individual lots spanning the full breadth of 19th- and early 20th-century photography. The sale brings together landmark historical images, rare early photographic processes, and a deep selection of vernacular material created outside the conventions of formal studio portraiture. Collectively, these works offer a direct, unfiltered record of American life, identity, conflict, labor, and memory during photography’s formative century.

Printed 8vo trade circular issued by Wm. Bristol & Co., 108 Genesee Street, Utica, New York, offering for sale daguerreotype stock, apparatus, and chemicals. The sheet lists prices for plates by size, cases, fancy stock, frames, chemicals, and photographic apparatus, including cameras and studio equipment. The imprint and full address are printed at the head, with the document dated at the conclusion, Utica, January 13, 1854.

The content reflects mid-19th century daguerreian trade practice, documenting the commercial availability and pricing of photographic materials during the height of the daguerreotype era. Items enumerated include French and domestic plates, case styles and sizes, mats, frames, chemicals such as mercury and bromine, and cameras by named manufacturers, providing a contemporaneous snapshot of the working supply market for American daguerreotypists.

The sheet is printed on both sides, with dense typographic layout and section headings for Plates, Cases, Fancy Stock, Frames, Chemicals, and Apparatus. An old paper label is affixed to the otherwise blank back, with scattered handwritten marks visible. No photographic imagery is present.
