Albumen carte de visite portrait showing a man in three-quarter bust view wearing a dark coat, waistcoat, and bow tie. The sitter is posed against a plain studio background, his hair brushed back with prominent side whiskers framing the face, a style commonly seen in the late 1850s and early Civil War period.

The reverse bears an elaborate ornamental backmark reading “Henry F. Warren, Waltham, Mass.” surrounding a central oval cartouche printed “Cartes de Visite.” Above the design an eagle holds a banner reading “Negatives Preserved.” The ornate scrollwork frame was engraved by Jones Engr. Co., Waltham, a distinctive Massachusetts CDV mount design.

A well-executed New England studio portrait with an attractive and detailed photographer’s backmark typical of early Civil War era carte de visite production.
