Carte de visite studio portrait depicting four Confederate officers posed in a formal group arrangement, two seated and two standing behind with hands resting on the shoulders of the seated men. All four wear double-breasted Confederate frock coats with matching trousers and ankle boots, photographed against a plain studio backdrop. The image is an albumen print on a period card mount, consistent in style and presentation with Confederate studio work produced during the Civil War, circa 1861–1865.

The uniform details, lack of visible line-officer insignia, and the overall presentation strongly align with known studio portraits of Confederate medical officers. Group portraits of surgeons were commonly made in rear-area towns and hospital centers, and the absence of weapons, field gear, or rank devices supports a staff rather than combat assignment. The seated posture of two figures, with the remaining officers posed in a composed, professional manner, further reflects conventions seen in documented Confederate surgeon and hospital staff photographs. Based on uniform style, boots, and photographic context, the group is best understood as Confederate surgeons rather than line officers.

No photographer’s imprint or studio credit appears on the verso, which remains blank. The mount features clipped corners and a simple ruled border typical of mid-war Confederate cartes de visite. No manuscript identifications are present, and the individuals remain unidentified. Despite this, the photograph stands as a strong and visually compelling example of Confederate medical personnel, a category of Civil War imagery that survives in far smaller numbers than standard soldier portraits.
