A horse-drawn carriage photographed before a commercial storefront in Honolulu is captured in this CDV from Burgess' Gallery, Crabbe & Meek Proprietors, Honolulu, H.I., dating to the 1860s or early 1870s. A partially legible sign visible in the storefront window reads "General Office, Hospital for [American] Seamen," identifying the building as a maritime medical or administrative facility, and placing this among the earliest known street-level photographic documents of Honolulu's commercial district.

A dark horse in full harness stands hitched to a two-wheeled covered gig or buggy before the building's entrance steps. A young woman in a dark dress stands on the steps beside the horse holding the bridle, and a second figure in a hat stands at the far right of the frame in a doorway. The storefront windows display numerous boxed goods and objects, and a skull or anatomical specimen is faintly visible in the upper left window display.

The reverse bears an extensive ink inscription identifying the horse by name as Kossuth, describing him as "the good and faithful companion of my dear husband" and praising his character at length, with the text continuing below the studio imprint. Burgess' Gallery operated under Crabbe & Meek as proprietors in Honolulu, Hawaiian Islands, and is among the earliest documented photographic studios in Hawaii.

The reverse bears the decorative imprint of Burgess' Gallery, Crabbe & Meek Proprietors, Honolulu, H.I., with extensive ink inscriptions above and below praising the horse Kossuth, and a penciled catalog notation at left.
