This CDV serves as a printed advertising card for H. T. Slaughenhaupt, Photographic Artist, of Littlestown, Pennsylvania, rather than a conventional portrait. The card face is densely composed with typographic text in multiple sizes and weights, framed within a decorative dashed border. No photograph is mounted to the recto; the card itself is the artifact.

Twelve small oval portrait vignettes are embedded throughout the advertisement, depicting men and women in period dress, arranged to frame and accent the printed text. The services listed include photographs and frames in all sizes and styles, ferrotypes, bon tons, gem pictures priced at twelve for one dollar, stereoscopes and select views, and copying and enlargement of old pictures.

H. T. Slaughenhaupt operated in Littlestown, Adams County, Pennsylvania, a small borough situated just north of the Maryland state line. The range of services advertised, particularly gem pictures and ferrotypes alongside stereoscopes, places this card firmly within the popular photography boom of the 1860s and 1870s.

The reverse bears a partial rubber stamp reading "PHO" and is otherwise blank, with no photographer's imprint printed on the mount.
