A richly detailed cabinet card portrait of Maude Alsore Lozer posed beside her elaborate display of Christmas toys and dolls, taken in 1891 by Louis Olson in Fertile, Minnesota. The young girl is seen behind a quilt-draped table adorned with an array of bisque and ceramic dolls, miniature furniture, and delicate tea sets. A large doll in bridal attire is featured prominently, with Maude’s hand resting gently on its arm.

Below the table, an abundant scattering of gifts further animates the scene. Among them are a drum, a toy horse, an articulated jester figure, a miniature rocking chair, a marionette-style puppet, and boxed sets of toy furniture and games. Every detail evokes the joyful abundance of a Victorian Christmas morning, carefully staged and preserved in this rare studio composition. The back is inscribed with the child’s name and the date, “Christmas 1891.” A vivid and charming document of 19th-century childhood celebration and material culture.
