Norman and Gordon Orton, identified on the mount face as "Little Norman and Gordon Orton," pose on hanging ropes in full performance costume in this dynamic cabinet card by Sloan of Cairo, Illinois, dating to the late 1880s based on mount style and the children's dress. The Orton name belongs to one of the most established circus dynasties in American performance history, with Hiram Orton having founded the Orton family circus in 1850 and trained his children and grandchildren across multiple generations as professional performers. Norman and Gordon appear here as working child acrobats, their promotional cabinet card serving as a trade portrait for booking and audience keepsakes.

Both children wear matching sleeveless printed bodices, dark tights, and white ballet slippers with crossed ankle ribbons, the standard performance dress for rope and aerial acts of the period. Norman at left grips the rope with one hand while raising the other arm overhead, his leg raised in a dynamic pose. Gordon at right grips the rope with both hands raised, one knee lifted, gazing directly into the camera with a composed expression. A painted garden backdrop fills the background behind both figures.

The mount face bears the printed imprint of Sloan, Cairo, Ills., with the caption "Little Norman and Gordon Orton" printed in small type at the lower center of the image.
