We are pleased to announce our next auction, featuring approximately 200 individual lots drawn from a diverse and compelling range of 19th- and early 20th-century photography. This sale focuses on vernacular images, photographs created not as formal studio portraits or elite commissions, but as direct, unscripted records of lived experience. These are objects made by and for everyday people, preserving moments of intimacy, labor, travel, performance, identity, and loss.

Late 19th-century advertising cabinet card featuring a bearded merchant or jeweler, his portrait encircled by a meticulous collage of engraved product illustrations. Surrounding the image are finely detailed depictions of clocks, pocket watches, tea sets, silver spoons, candlesticks, and various other personal and domestic items, representative of the type of wares sold in a well-stocked jewelry or dry goods store. The central portrait is framed by these visual references, blending the man’s likeness with the commercial goods he presumably sold.

The photographer's imprint “Hamilton” appears on the card mount, with a possible association to Waterloo, Indiana, suggested by pencil notations on the reverse. This promotional image not only functions as a personal likeness but also serves as a visually striking and cleverly constructed advertisement, capturing the marketing sensibilities of small-town American commerce in the Victorian era.
