Albumen stereoview depicting the marriage ceremony of Gen’l Tom Thumb and Lavinia Warren, the famous dwarf performers associated with P. T. Barnum. The scene shows the miniature wedding party assembled in a church interior with the officiating clergyman standing behind the couple as vows are exchanged.
The mount is titled “THE MARRIAGE OF GEN’L TOM THUMB.” A printed line below the image reads “Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1863 by Brady & Co. in the Clerk’s Office of the District Court of the U.S. for the Southern District of New York.” This photograph records one of the most widely publicized curiosity events of the nineteenth century.
