Six albumen silver boudoir cards document the geysers of Yellowstone National Park, photographed and published by F. Jay Haynes from his St. Paul, Minnesota studio. The front margins of at least two cards carry printed series numbers and titles reading "The Giant Geyser" and "Old Faithful Geyser," placing these within Haynes's numbered Yellowstone boudoir series. Haynes served as the official photographer for Yellowstone National Park from 1884 to 1921, and he held simultaneous appointments as official photographer of the Northern Pacific Railway and of Yellowstone National Park, while also operating early transportation concessions in the park.

Each card presents a distinct stage or angle of geyser activity: two views show Old Faithful erupting from its sinter mound with a dense column of steam and vapor filling the upper frame and a line of spectators visible at the lower right; two depict the Giant Geyser sending a narrow, towering jet of water and steam high above the surrounding terrain; and two additional cards capture low-level eruptions at the basin floor, with a dense treeline and what appears to be a park structure visible at the midground. All six prints are albumen silver on heavy buff-toned card stock with the characteristic cream mounts of the Haynes boudoir format, and the overcast tonal range of each image reflects the extended exposure times required to capture live geyser activity in the field.

Haynes became the official photographer for the Northern Pacific Railroad in 1883 and was provided with a studio and darkroom on rails built to his design, the "Palace Car Studio," enabling sustained fieldwork across the park. Boudoir views photographed and published by F. Jay Haynes date to approximately 1879 to 1889, placing this group among his most historically significant commercial output from the park's earliest tourism era.

At least two cards bear the printed reverse imprint reading "Haynes Boudoir Views, Northern Pacific, Yellowstone Park, Pacific Coast, and Alaska. F. Jay Haynes, Official Photographer N.P.R.R., 392 Jackson St., St. Paul, Minn." The remaining reverses are blank. Series numbers visible on the front margins include 3000 (The Giant Geyser) and 31022 (Old Faithful Geyser).
