This carte de visite photograph shows a Union soldier in uniform presented as a bust portrait. The image is a standard CDV format, dating to circa 1863–1865. The mount is printed for the Union Picture Gallery, 112 Genesee Street, Auburn, New York.
The soldier wears a dark military coat with a high collar and visible buttons, posed against a plain studio background with a softly vignetted lower edge typical of the period.
The mount includes printed text along the front margin reading “Union Picture Gallery, 112 Genesee St., Auburn, N.Y.” The reverse bears a blue studio imprint with the same address and additional text naming J. W. & S. Hall, proprietors, and J. H. Nason, artist.
