Two real photo postcard dyptic showing a costumed tramp or comic character posed in a photographic studio, printed on AZO stamp box stock dating to the early twentieth century. The photographer’s imprint Jennings, 68 So. First St., San Jose appears on one card. The subject is unidentified.
The first postcard shows the man standing and facing the camera wearing a battered suit with patched sleeves and torn trousers, a small round hat, and heavy worn boots. He carries a long walking stick and a bundle tied in cloth over his shoulder, and a kettle or tin container hangs from the bundle. A handwritten inscription reads “Your loving brother in rags” followed by initials that appear to read J. C. P. The second postcard shows the same figure from the back with the walking stick and bundle visible and a large handwritten placard suspended from his shoulders.
