An unidentified young man and an older mustachioed man identified on the reverse as "Grandpa Higenbaugh" pose with their tools at the P.V. Chair Works in this CDV-sized tintype housed in a red-bordered arched paper mount. The inscription reads "my Grandpa Higenbaugh on right at P.V. Chair Works" in a later hand on the reverse. The format and mount style are consistent with the 1870s to early 1880s.

Higenbaugh stands at right wearing a dark vest over a work shirt with sleeves rolled to the forearm, holding a claw hammer at his chest and resting his other hand on a wooden box or chair component on the workbench before him. The younger man at left holds a hand plane at waist level, his work shirt open at the collar. A patterned carpet or cloth covers the work table surface, and additional wooden components and tools including a second plane are visible on the bench. A turned wooden post or spindle is partially visible at the right edge, consistent with chair or furniture production.

The reverse bears no photographer's imprint and carries the family identification inscription in blue ink. The "P.V." designation in the facility name likely refers to a local place name, the full identity of the works unconfirmed but consistent with the numerous small chair and furniture manufacturing operations active in rural Pennsylvania during this period.
