We are pleased to announce our next auction, featuring approximately 200 individual lots drawn from a diverse and compelling range of 19th- and early 20th-century photography. This sale focuses on vernacular images, photographs created not as formal studio portraits or elite commissions, but as direct, unscripted records of lived experience. These are objects made by and for everyday people, preserving moments of intimacy, labor, travel, performance, identity, and loss.

Striking trio of 19th-century carte de visite photographs by Samuel J. Mason, each capturing a dramatic summer perspective of Niagara Falls. One view features a remarkable close-up of the raging rapids with the suspension bridge rising behind the spray. Another presents a dynamic downstream angle from behind the American Falls, showing the lighthouse structure and mist cascading into the gorge. The third captures a bold view from Goat Island, the powerful water curtain framed by rocky outcrops and foliage. Each mount is backmarked “Samuel J. Mason, Point View, Niagara Falls, N.Y.,” advertising his stereographs on paper and glass of “Winter and Summer Views of the Falls.” A rare matched set of early tourist imagery from a significant regional photographer.
