Exceptional early Texas penitentiary escape document featuring a sharp original 3½" x 4" mugshot photograph of George Bradford, mounted to an original typed Texas Prison Commission wanted circular. Bradford, No. 25094, was convicted of burglary and forgery in Collin and Burleson Counties and sentenced to nine years beginning in 1905. This document details Bradford’s physical appearance (5'11¼", 155 lbs., light brown hair, blue eyes), criminal history, escape attempts, and aliases. It also notes scars and identifying marks.
Bradford had previously escaped from the Whatley & Elkins Farm in September 1910 and remained at large for over two years before being returned to custody. He escaped again on March 6, 1913, from the T.V. House Farm. The circular lists his relatives, including a W.T. Bradford of Sympronia, Austin County, Texas.
The mugshot portrait is crisp and exhibits excellent tonal range, showing Bradford seated with his prison ID overhead. Document is approximately 8" x 10" overall with some expected edge wear, loss at upper margin, and mounting residue. An evocative and very rare surviving Texas penal document—a rich source of historical and genealogical content.
