Three hand-colored and albumen stereoviews comprise this lot, two depicting a staged London gin palace interior scene and one showing a seated street musician on an orange-bordered mount. The two gin palace views are related compositions capturing the same interior from slightly different vantages, both featuring a prominently lettered "GIN" sign above a stocked bar, hanging globe lamps, and a green-clothed counter. The musician view, mounted on a vivid orange card, shows an elderly man in a low-brimmed hat and scarf holding a hurdy-gurdy.

The hand-coloring on the gin palace views is applied with particular attention to the figures, with a bright red jacket on one central figure, a crimson coat on another, and contrasting dark trousers. Multiple figures appear at the bar in both scenes, including women in period dress and a small animal visible in the first composition. The musician's card carries a pencil inscription on the reverse reading "Hardy Gurdy Player, Came with Otterbon Group by Crawford."

The gin palace subject was a widely documented social theme in Victorian stereoview publishing, and the "A Clever Monkey" subject was issued commercially as a staged narrative series. The reverse of the first card bears a printed bilingual label reading "A London Gin Palace, A Clever Monkey! / UN 'PUBLIC HOUSE' DE LONDRES, Le Singe Savant."
