The old stage station at Echo City, Utah, is the foreground subject of this albumen stereoview, published by Savage and Ottinger's Pioneer Fine Art Gallery of Salt Lake City as part of their Union Pacific Railroad Views series, number 154. Charles Savage and George Ottinger were among the most prominent photographers documenting the construction and landscape of the transcontinental railroad corridor through Utah and Wyoming in the late 1860s. The title printed on the mount reads "Conglomerate Rocks, Mouth of Echo," situating the view at one of the most dramatic passages along the Union Pacific line.

Two low log structures with pitched roofs occupy the lower foreground, one with open double doors suggesting active use as a stable or freight station. A wagon with large spoked wheels stands at left, several horses are tied or grazing nearby, and at least two figures stand among the animals in working dress. The massive conglomerate cliff face fills nearly the entire background, its deeply pocked and rounded surfaces rising dramatically above the flat station yard.

Echo Canyon served as a critical waypoint on the overland stage and emigrant road before the railroad supplanted stagecoach travel; the structures visible here represent that transitional moment in western transportation history. The reverse is printed on green card stock with the full Savage and Ottinger imprint, and a penciled notation reads "Old Stage Station at Echo City, Utah" with the catalog number P109.
