The grave of Brigham Young, second president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and colonizer of the Salt Lake Valley, is the subject of this albumen stereoview by Charles R. Savage of Salt Lake City, Utah. The view belongs to Savage's "Views of the Great West, from the Missouri River to the Pacific Ocean," Utah Series, a documented series produced from the late 1860s onward that established Savage as the preeminent photographer of the Mormon West. The orange-mounted card format and print tonality are consistent with examples from the 1870s to early 1880s, shortly after Young's death in August 1877.

An ornate cast-iron Gothic-revival fence encloses the grave plot, its spire-topped corner posts and arched picket panels rising from a stone base set into bare earth. A young sapling grows within the enclosure, a low stone rubble wall runs behind it, and a white-painted frame building with a visible chimney occupies the middle distance against hazy Wasatch Mountain peaks.

Brigham Young was buried on the family property in Salt Lake City, and the elaborate ironwork enclosure visible here was erected soon after his interment and became a widely photographed landmark in Savage's Utah Series. The reverse label carries the ornate printed series imprint and reads "Grave of President B. Young," with manuscript notations including "O. H. Booth," dealer notations, and a penciled price of "$12."
